Why do people feel so miserable and disengaged at work

Why do people feel so miserable and disengaged at work? Because today's businesses are increasingly and dizzyingly complex — and traditional pillars of management are obsolete, says Yves Morieux.

So, he says, it falls to individual employees to navigate the rabbit's warren of interdependencies. In this energetic talk, Morieux offers six rules for "smart simplicity." (Rule One: Understand what your colleagues actually do.)

How Wise Man ike you makes Foolish Decision making

The toughest part of our life is to make decisions & the challenge is they cannot always be right. Sometimes we fail & land up in an unwanted situation due to making a wrong decision.
Success doesn’t last forever. No matter how many perfect decisions we make in the past we are remembered for our latest decision & performance. Only the recent performance is discussed during appraisals.
Cricketers too get lauded or criticised based on their latest performance

Hope this is not your horror story
* Names have been changed to protect confidentiality
I was working for one of the top Fortune 500 Engineering organisation as a maintenance head. My parents were very old and used to stay in our ancestral home in Chennai.
My father was not keeping well and I was stressed about it and planned to visit him during the weekend. I came to office in the morning as there was some maintenance schedule to be discussed. I got a call from my mother weeping that my father had a heart attack and she wanted me to come immediately.
Fearing the worst I rushed to my Boss and told him I had to urgently rush to my home town Chennai due to my father’s situation.
He without any emotions told me in a flat tone to give him some important documents regarding the maintenance plan before going and briefing my colleagues to handle my work in my absence.
I was literally shaking with rage . Thanks to the support of my colleagues who said they would handle the situation and made arrangements for me to drop me to the airport.
Unfortunately due to my Boss I missed the first available flight by 10 minutes and had to catch the later first available flight which was after 3 hours .
My dad expired calling my name one hour before I could reach him. I was flabbergasted and was so angry with my Boss on delaying me that I took 15 days leave and looked for another job and quit the company .
I also wrote the cause in my exit interview , later I heard that my Boss who was literally hated by his team because of his rude and selfish behaviour got a promotion and became the division head. He also bad mouthed me saying I was a good riddance.
If you have similar experience . You can do much more than just quitting now you can share the feedback about your boss anonymously inhttp://knowurboss.com and warn others

Sports Imitating Life-Lessons from Indo-Bangla Cricket Match

That freaking last over in India Bangladesh Match was a neat set of life lessons. Here is how:
Bangladesh needs 12 runs in last over. Over a billion people are on edge with their ------ on cusp of despair or joy.
  1. Pandya goes for 2 fours in first 3 balls. At this point game is over for India. But Pandya still keeps his head to ball some what sensibly for last 3 balls.
Life Lesson 1- It is never lost until you lose it. Even if defeat is staring at your face.
2 . Mushfiqur hits second four in last over and punches in air. Just 2 runs needed in 3 balls. So they have won he thinks. The Bangla dugout stands clapping. Wrong assumption.
Life Lesson 2- Never count your chickens until they are hatched. Really hatched.
  1. Two runs needed in last ball. A billion people watching are trembling with nerves. Dhoni remains cool showing no emotion. In the melee of last ball when billion minds have raced to confusion, he has sense to not throw the ball and run the batsman out. He knows he has won , yet he doesn’t jump into air or punches his fist.
Life Lesson 3- Equanimity and dispassion is key to master one's mind. No excessive joy in good time and no excessive sorrow in unfavorable times is how one should live.
  1. One freak hit and Bangladesh could have won. One run in last over and it could have been a tie. Anything was possible like a random chance at toss of dice.
Life Lesson 4: There is an overall seeming randomness in life. In the end you lose some and you win some by an unknown roll of dice.

Human Resource- Losing The Opportunity to Add Value

It is the Human Resource Management that bears the brunt of being a joke in any organization. Human Resource is considered to be for lazy people who do nothing but hire; fire and create salary structures. Very few understand that Human Resource Management is a very critical function, the one which even management leaders cannot do without.

The traditional boundaries of HR management remain at hiring, firing, managing, promoting, appraising and paying the employees. What is not observed is how the HR leaders can add value to the organization outside their boundaries.

Let us look at examples of how HR can lose its value:

-   -If the IT department wants to introduce a new people oriented software in the organisation, do they turn to HR for support or do they turn to the consultant who is supposed to have “better knowledge” of people?

-       -When a particular department is not performing, do the department leaders call HR to diagnose the problem or do they try and solve it themselves?

-     -When the management decides to acquire a new company whose product might be different from the parent company; do they consult the HR leaders to help understand the impact it will have in the long run?

-What management and leaders today need to understand is that Human Resource  comes with an extra function- Human Resource ‘Development’. This extra function of ‘development’ does not only start and end with employee skill building or team  building- but it has the responsibility of developing and organizational building as  well.

So, how do HR leaders bring a change in adding more value to an organization?

-     -Leadership is about bringing a change in organizational culture. As a Human Resource leader, one must understand that culture cannot be changed but behavioural changes can happen. Organizational health can be seen through behaviour change

-    -Organizational change will happen slowly- sometimes it will fail at one level and succeed at another level. As a human resource personnel, having a holistic approach helps along with the knowledge of predicting what can happen

-         -Training helps in developing leaders- and so we have special training and development hr managers. But only ten percent of learning happens in classes and by reading material. Rest is learned by developing skills and having the opportunity to practice them. HR leaders need to make the management understand that the scope to apply theoretical learning in practice should be provided to the employees.

-Looking outside of the traditional HR functions, recognising business needs, recognising the need of other departments can help solve organizational problems. HR leaders should collaborate with the strategic team, the IT team or the Marketing team. HR has the ability to predict what the scope of development is.

HR Leadership plays a strong role in planning and development. Human Resource should serve more on the company management teams and help in assessing company strengths, weaknesses and projections of opportunities and threats.

PPTs for HR Trainers

Human Resource Management is art and science of managing people in an organization. The modern HR Trainer is very busy identifying the best talent for the organization. After identification of the talent the next step is to train them so that they can work in line with the objectives of the organization.

The human resource management department achieves this by regular training of its employees.HR Trainers play a crucial rule by identifying the gaps in the skills set of an employee and then training him/her accordingly.

We have made the job of trainers easier, by preparing a lot of presentations for the trainers and employees. Most of them arein Leadership skills, communication insights, change management, self-management, and people management,

Developing An Overall Winning Approach In Life

Personality is an important attribute which takes you ahead in life. It is something you are remembered for. A facet which makes you interesting and unique from others. You can share your looks but not personality. Looks can for sure make you interesting but can’t hold a candle to great personality. Being interesting is how efficient you are in grabbing people’s attention making personality important both in a informal social meeting or in a formal  corporate event.

Being interesting is also something you cannot fake. It entirely depends on your personality. And good news is even  if you are not blessed with a good personality, unlike looks, personality is something which can be worked upon.  More important it should be done, if you want to achieve success in life.

A great personality can help you progress in your profession and can help you avail that steep curve in your career graph. So without any doubt and apprehension one should give a serious concern to this matter.
There are many institutes which are seriously delivering the best of services and a large part of audience is benefitting from it. Importance of People Management for a successful marketing strategy

A business works because of its key asset- the people. Any marketing strategy is not good enough if it hasn’t considered people management. The products of a business, no matter how good they might be, will not make the consumers happy if the people management techniques are poor. A business can have the best of products, best packaging, and best advertising; if the business doesn’t have knowledgeable, motivated, driven, trained, enthusiastic people around- the marketing strategy will fail.
Does People management only include your employees? Look at it at the macro level. People management includes management of your employees, suppliers of materials, wholesalers, distributors, clients, agents, business partners and everybody that makes your product a success in the market.
For a successful marketing strategy, people management should begin at the internal level with recruitment which involves getting the right people for the job. Well trained management trainees and well experienced employees make your marketing strategy firm. It is important to keep the employee trainings ongoing in any business. It develops people by enhancing their knowledge and skills. Evaluation of people performance, motivating employees to achieve targets, providing recognition, rewards and growth opportunities for talented people goes a long way in developing a good marketing strategy.
Marketing strategy rests largely on how a business treats its partners and people who help make the business product a success. A business should always choose and work with such people who are compatible, likeminded and have the skills and tools that will help the business grow. Next comes the budgeting, the infrastructure, the value for money invested. But most importantly people management rests on the goodwill the suppliers and the clients have in the market, the trust they have developed in supplying the products and services on time; without any damage.
A key point to note for a successful people management strategy is to engage people at all levels. While creating a marketing strategy one looks at the details of products and the target audience. But a good people manager takes into consideration the people at every level who make that marketing strategy a success for the business. When people from the lower ranks are also involved and made to feel important; the people management technique becomes a hit. Training of skills should not be limited to managers alone. Instead training should also be provided to factory workers and low level employees.
People management is an important aspect which many tend to take lightly at times. Without the people who help you make what you are; neither will your marketing strategies nor your business score in the outside world.

How to Give Powerful Business Presentations

While you want to influence the audience, it is vital that you have a clear path to follow. Going to the business presentation unprepared may lead to rejection without any solid call-to-action.

Make sure that you know  what you're talking. Content is the most significant factor of any presentation. However, in case you're concentrating on business management presentation which looks to influence people, you need to focus on the message that you wish to deliver. In case you deliver the content which doesn't go with the products, people won’t trust you and you won’t become successful in sales conversion.

While hosting any presentation it becomes important not to  get  too much excited . You are trying to convince them to take a decision according to what they need. Incidentally, you should always be prepared  that your spectators who may be thoughtful, may not understand the content.

In some cases there may be a conflict of opinion, however don't treat that as anobstruction. Instead, explain your understanding about all the viewpoints and attach it with your content to provide a solution wherever possible.

You also need to make sure that you incorporate appeals which are logical, ethical, and expressive. Have proof /success stories as back up of the content that you are providing for business strategy. Such evidence might include testimonials ofexisting clients, or opinions of somewell known experts.

To make sure that your business presentation becomes successful, it is very important that you become well aware of the benefits that the audience may enjoy based on your recommendations in business management presentations. Correspondingly, it is vital that you have sufficient information to counter any obstacles which may come in your way. Prior to taking the final judgment about what details should be given in the business strategy presentation, devote some time and do some thinking and reflection.

A Winning Business Strategy

There are many entrepreneurs who work but tend to fail. The reasons maybe many, but the most common of them would be to make errors in their business management strategies.

A good business strategy should be designed in order to bring success by avoiding failure. Even if you have a workable business strategy, sometimes, due to unforeseen situations, there may be failures. The key is to learn from them, commit to your work and rework.

Some gaps that lead to a failure in business strategies can be:

Research and Planning

An important aspect in business strategies, sometimes there is a danger to fall into the trap of too much research and business planning. Too much detail can be mind boggling at times. Sometimes the quantity of an analyses and too much data in a business presentation can lead to too many issues and the team might not know the most important business strategy to follow.

Understanding the client

It is important to know what your customer’s/client’s needs are. A thorough study of the client’s business, a need to make good business presentations as to what the client is looking for and dialogue with the client helps understand and make business strategies accordingly.

The need to capture everything at once

A good business strategy focuses only on one thing at a time. Prioritising is important for a workable business strategy. Doing everything at once, trying to capture every sort of customer at one go; is a mistake people make in business management.

Communication is important

Getting people to believe in your business strategy depends on how well you communicate. A business presentation is a good way used in meetings and conferences to make your point through to clients. Business presentations though, can be critical. Thus by keeping a business presentation simple and giving out the cream information and data, your purpose of communicating your business strategy can be served well.

At last, but not the least, any business strategy doesn’t last forever. Change is necessary. There is a need to explore your competitor’s business strategies and keep doing market research to better your business management skills.
